Thank you for your interest in the National Association of Massotherapists (NAM).
To become a member of NAM, you must:
- Read, understand, and agree to the Code of Ethics.
- Download, print, and fill out the application form.
- Provide a photocopy of your diploma(s), certificate(s), and attestation(s).
- Provide a photocopy of your photo ID.
- Pay your membership fee via our online store.
- Send all documents by mail to 10225 Jeanne-Mance Street, Montreal, Quebec, H3L 3B7 or by email to the address mentioned on the application form.
Designations and conditions of acceptance
Massage Therapy Practitioner
Candidates must have completed training in a recognized school totaling between 400 and 1000 hours of courses
Massage Therapist
Candidates must have completed 1000 hours or more of training given by recognized schools
*A person who has studied outside Quebec can submit their application and may be subject to a theoretical and practical exam depending on their skills with a person or establishment designated by the NAM. Refresher courses may also have be taken, at the discretion of the study committee. Each application is studied on a case-by-case basis and the study may take more than 15 working days depending on the nature of the information submitted.
If a school is not on the NAM list, please let us know, we will carry out the appropriate research.
Receipts for professional practice
The NAM offers you 2 forms of receipts, either electronic and interactive or in the form of receipt booklets.
Expect the application review process to take 15 business days. Once your application is approved, NAM will send you everything you need: a series of numbered e-receipts (which your clients will need to make their insurance claims), forms for record keeping, 2 receipt booklets for massage consultations and a NAM membership certificate through the mail.
Upon acceptance of your application, you will need to obtain professional liability insurance. You can subscribe thru our partner ESSOR (online enrolment). Do not forget to send us your policy number so that we can add it to your file.
In addition to representation by a recognized association, NAM members enjoy numerous benefits and services essential to their practice.
Recognition by insurers
The benefits and advantages of massage therapy to maintaining and improving health have been demonstrated time and again. Receipts issued by NAM members are recognized and accepted by all insurance companies offering individual and group insurance.*
*The insured person must check their coverage to make sure the services of a massotherapists are reimbursed under their insurance plan.
Professional liability insurance
NAM members must purchase professional liability insurance and can access other insurance products designed specifically for them through our partner, ESSOR Insurance (online enrolment).
Referral service
NAM members benefit from a referral system. We direct client calls and inquiries to the massage therapists’ located closest to their place of residence or work.
List your school on our website
We publish a directory of NAM-accredited schools and training centres. If you run a school or offer training, you can ask to be included in the directory.
Visibility and blog
The « Message Board » section of our website contains many articles and a host of information that attract clients with an interest in massage therapy and related services. NAM members can increase their visibility by publishing an article, a news item, or an advertisement for free.
